Anti-fingerprint (AFP) stainless steel is finished sheet, hairline, bead blast or PVD coloured, sealed with a transparent coating so fingerprints, water, oil and dust sit on the coating and wipe off. It belongs wherever hands meet steel: lift doors, entrance doors and counters.

About this finish
A bare stainless surface shows a fingerprint because skin oil fills the microscopic grain and changes how it scatters light. AFP adds a thin, clear coating over the finished sheet. The coating is smoother and less absorbent than the steel, so the oil stays on top as a film that a dry cloth lifts, and water beads rather than spreading into a spot. The finish underneath is unchanged in appearance: on the group's own comparison sheets the coated and uncoated halves look identical until someone touches them.
The group offers AFP on its stainless sheet finishes and on PVD coloured sheet, and its compatibility matrix extends the coating to mild steel, galvanised steel, aluminium and copper. On coloured sheet the coating goes over the colour layer, so a gold or black lift panel can be specified with the same wipe-clean behaviour as a plain hairline one. Grades are described only as various; confirm the grade for the site as you would for any stainless order.
Two limits are worth stating plainly. First, the coating manages marks, it does not remove the need to clean: a busy lift door still needs wiping, only less often and with less effort. Second, the group says the coating helps protect against corrosion and oxidation, but the grade underneath still governs. An AFP coating on 304 does not turn it into a coastal grade; in Jeddah or Dammam specify 316 and add AFP for the fingerprints.

Care & maintenance
Most marks come off with a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth. For a full clean use warm water with a mild neutral detergent, rinse and dry, wiping along the grain on hairline sheet. Avoid bleach, chloride cleaners, solvents, acidic descalers and abrasive pads: they attack the clear coating first and the steel second, and once the coating is scoured away in a patch, that patch will take fingerprints again.

- 01Does anti-fingerprint stainless steel change the look of the finish?
- No. The coating is transparent and thin; hairline stays hairline and PVD colour stays the same colour. On the group's split comparison sheets the two halves are indistinguishable until one is touched.
- 02Can PVD coloured sheet have an anti-fingerprint coating?
- Yes. The group applies AFP over its PVD colours, and dark colours such as black and bronze benefit most because fingerprints show hardest on them.
- 03Does the anti-fingerprint coating protect against rust?
- It helps keep water, salt and dirt off the metal, which the group counts as protection against corrosion and oxidation, but the stainless grade still decides how the sheet behaves. For coastal or wet sites choose the grade first, 316 near the sea, and treat AFP as a cleaning aid.
