PVD coated stainless steel is sheet whose colour sits in a thin, hard ceramic layer deposited on the finished surface in a vacuum chamber; the base texture shows through. It belongs on lift interiors, wall cladding, ceilings, column wraps and furniture, indoors and out.

About this finish
Physical vapour deposition happens in a vacuum chamber. A metal such as titanium or zirconium is vaporised, reacts with a process gas and condenses on the stainless steel as a thin compound layer bonded to the surface. The colour comes from the composition of that layer, so there is no pigment and no paint film to chip. Because the layer is thin, whatever texture the sheet had before coating is still what you see afterwards: a hairline base stays a hairline, a mirror base stays a mirror.
The group offers two families. Mono-tone PVD is one solid colour across the sheet. Dichromic (2-in-1) PVD reads as two tones that trade places as the viewing angle and the light change. The listed colours are gold, champagne gold, rose gold, bronze, sand bronze, copper and black, plus blue, purple, pink and green. Base finishes under the colour:
- Hairline, brush and vibration for a directional or swirled grain
- Mirror for a reflective coloured surface
- Bead blast and matte for a soft, low-glare tone
- Etched, embossed and Plaid patterns, coloured after texturing
- An anti-fingerprint clear coat over the PVD layer for high-touch areas
For specification, hold on to one point: PVD changes the colour, not the metallurgy. The sheet under the layer is still the grade you ordered, with that grade's corrosion resistance. The base finish decides how the colour reads at arm's length: on mirror like coloured glass, on hairline like brushed metal, on bead blast like a matt powder tone. The group's compatibility matrix also lists PVD on aluminium, where the same rule applies.

Care & maintenance
Clean PVD surfaces with warm water, a mild neutral detergent and a soft cloth, then rinse and dry. On hairline and brush bases, wipe along the grain. Avoid bleach, chloride-based cleaners, acidic descalers and abrasive pads, which mark the layer and the steel under it.
Outside, dust and salt sit on the surface and hold moisture, so an occasional wash matters more than the product used. Coastal exteriors should be specified in 316; 304 will tea-stain in Jeddah and Dammam whatever the colour on top.

- Yes, indoors and outdoors according to the group. The layer does not change the corrosion behaviour of the sheet, so pick the grade for the site: 316 near the coast, 304 inland. External metalwork passes 45 °C in summer and dark colours run hotter; allow for expansion in the fixing detail.
- 03Which base finishes can be PVD coated?
- Hairline, brush, vibration, mirror, bead blast, matte, etched, embossed and Plaid, and an anti-fingerprint coat can go over the colour. Choose the base first: it sets the texture and how much the colour reflects; the PVD only adds the tone.
