Embossed stainless steel pipes and tubes are ornamental sections whose outer surface has been textured with a pressed pattern, such as reverse 5WL or hammered. They suit handrails, balustrade posts, furniture frames and decorative screens where a plain polished tube would look flat.

About this finish
The texture is formed by pressing a pattern into the tube wall, so it is a deformation of the steel rather than an applied layer. Two named patterns are pictured: reverse 5WL, a staggered field of shallow oval recesses, and hammered, a random scatter of small dimples. Both break up the long straight reflection that a plain polished tube gives, so the section reads as textured from a distance and shows its pattern clearly close up.
The group photograph shows round and square sections in bright silver, gold and a dark bronze tone, with diamond, hammered and oval patterns. The compatibility record lists embossing, PVD, anti-fingerprint and mirror as the processes that go with this product, so a tube can be supplied as plain embossed mirror or with a colour layer over the texture.
The pattern is a surface treatment. Specify grade, outside diameter and wall thickness separately, as for any tube, and for handrail or structural duty call up the tube standard, for example ASTM A554 for welded ornamental stainless tube. Grades are not stated on the page, so confirm 304 or 316 with the order.
The page notes that the textured surface is easy to keep and resists everyday scratching. The physical reason is that a textured surface has no single flat plane to catch light, so fine marks are less visible than on a mirror, and PVD is a thin hard ceramic layer, harder than the steel beneath it. Neither makes the tube immune to scratching.

Care & maintenance
Wipe with warm water and mild detergent on a soft cloth, then rinse and dry. On a hammered or 5WL texture dust settles in the recesses; a soft brush lifts it. On PVD-coloured tube avoid anything abrasive, because the colour is a thin layer and wear shows first on the high points.
- Do not use bleach or chloride-based cleaners on stainless steel.
- Do not use scouring pads or metal polish with abrasive grit.
- Outdoors, and especially near the coast, choose 316 and rinse salt off the texture regularly.
