Slitting

Coil slitting of stainless steel and aluminium — wide master coils cut into narrower strip at the widths your press, roll-former or tube mill needs, re-coiled and labelled by width.

Where machine limits are shown they come from the company profile; your material, dimensions and quantity are confirmed on enquiry — you get the measured answer, not an estimate.

Slitting cuts a wide coil into several narrow coils in one pass. The master coil is uncoiled, fed through a set of rotary knives spaced at the widths required, and the resulting strips are re-wound side by side on the recoiler. A single wide coil becomes exactly the strip widths a roll-forming line, a tube mill or a press needs, with clean sheared edges and no offcut wider than the trim. It is the process behind every strip-fed product we and our customers make.

What gets slit

  • Strip for roll-formed profiles — channels, angles, cladding and ceiling sections.
  • Feedstock for tube and pipe mills in stainless steel.
  • Narrow coil for press shops, stamping and coil-fed punching.
  • Aluminium strip for signage, trim and architectural sections.

Why slit to order

A roll-former or a press wants strip at one exact width, and buying it that way from a mill means large quantities and long lead times. Slitting a master coil here gives the width you need, in the quantity you need, from material already on this side of the port. Several widths can come off the same coil in one pass, edge quality is controlled by knife setting and clearance, and each daughter coil is weighed, labelled and strapped so it goes on your decoiler without sorting.

Slit coil feeds our own coil-to-coil punching and cut-to-length lines, so a perforated strip at a custom width is one order, not three.

From your widths to slit coil

  1. Tell us the material, thickness, the strip widths and the quantity of each, and how you want the coils wound and packed.
  2. We confirm the master coil, the knife set-up and the edge condition you need.
  3. The coil is slit and re-wound; widths, edge quality and coil weights are checked and recorded on the label.
  4. Daughter coils are strapped and delivered, or continue to punching or cut to length in the same order.

Frequently asked

01Which materials do you slit?
Stainless steel and aluminium coil in the gauges used for roll-forming, tube and press work. Width and thickness limits are confirmed against your enquiry.
02What edge condition does a slit strip have?
A clean sheared edge with a small burr on one side, controlled by knife clearance. Where the edge will be visible or formed tightly, we agree the edge condition on a sample first.
03Can you slit several widths from one coil?
Yes. The knives are set for all the widths in one pass, so one master coil yields several daughter coils of different widths with only the edge trim as waste.
04How are the coils packed?
Each daughter coil is strapped, labelled with material, width, thickness and weight, and stacked on a pallet or skid as agreed. Interleaving is available for finished surfaces.
05Can slit coil be perforated or cut to length as well?
Yes. Slit strip runs straight into our coil-to-coil punching and cut-to-length lines, so custom-width perforated strip or sheet is a single order.
